Amicus Brief: Parental Rights of Non-Biological Parents

A wrongful death case is being litigated in the state of California on behalf of a man who was killed by the police.  The state is arguing that the man's two biological children have standing in the case, but his non-biological child who he raised since birth should not have standing.  Amira contributed data and signed onto an amicus brief on appeal arguing for the protection of non-biological parental rights in all contexts with the National Center for Lesbian Rights, ACLU of Southern California, ACLU of Northern California, ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, and Professor Nancy Polikoff.  Click here for more information and here to read the brief.
