We're often asked why people should have to adopt their own children. It's common to feel that this is an unfair burden placed on lesbian couples, trans/nonbinary parents and other couples who build their family using sperm donation. And while we agree with you, an even more unfair burden could be placed on your children if there is a life emergency that puts your parentage in question, and you haven’t legally protected it.
